Bostock Brothers: Chook Symphony No. 1

Not all campaigns have to be big to be picked up. This is a case in point.

Bostock Brothers is New Zealand’s only 100% organic free range chicken producer. Problem was: Kiwis didn’t realise that the organic certification means Bostock Brothers goes much further for animal welfare than other free range brands.

So to demonstrate that Bostock Brothers goes above and beyond to give their chickens the best quality of life, I did some research – and found that chickens are actually quite into classical music.

So we decided to team up with Kiwi composer Hamish Oliver and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra to commission a piece of music specially for Bostock Brothers’ flock.

Chook Symphony No. 1 – the first ever symphony for chickens – was extensively tested to match the chickens’ tastes, and crafted to soothe and invigorate the birds in their sunny Hawke’s Bay pasture. And one morning, we performed it live at the Bostock Brothers farm in front of an audience of media and a few thousand rapt chickens.

From the New Zealand Herald to the Guardian, the Chook Symphony went global. All for less than NZ$15K.

The piece of music is now available on Spotify for any chook lover anywhere to play to their flocks.
